DOI: 10.3334/CDIAC/atg.db1019 This readme file is intended to provide a quick overview of the hierarchy of the subdirectory (/pub/db1019) containing the stratospheric radionuclide and trace gas databases (RANDAB and TRACDAB) provided to the Carbon Dioxide Information Analysis Center (CDIAC) by Robert Leifer and Nita Chan of the U.S. Department of Energy's Environmental Measurement Laboratory (EML). After reading this text users are strongly encouraged to retrieve and read one of two identical files (readfirs.txt or readfirs.wpd) that provide further details on the content and format of the files comprising these databases. A. DATA FILES This subdirectory "/pub/db1019" contains three subdirectories ("ascii", "document", and "foxidata") and two identical versions of this readme file (readme.txt & readme.wpd). Within these subdirectories can be found the data files in various formats as well as associated documents. These are described in the following paragraphs. 1. Main Data Files You have a choice of working with the radionuclide data in an ASCII format or Microsoft FoxPro format. These files can be found in the either the /pub/db1019/ascii or foxidata subdirectories. There are two additional text files, coltic.txt and coltih.txt in the "/pub/db1019/document/textasci" subdirectory. These files provide column identification names which can be added to the randab_c.txt and randab_h.txt data files. 2. Additional Data Files Between the years 1959 and 1970 plutonium isotopic ratio data were published in HASL-273 (April 1973) with no identifying filter numbers. Because of the lack of filter numbers, this set of data is not included in the files comprising RANDAB, but instead have been incorporated into a separate file /pub/db1019/foxidata/pu59to70.xls or /pub/db1019/dataasci/pu59to70.txt A brief description of the files pu59to70.xls or pu59to70.txt can be found in either /pub/db1019/document/textasci/appenda.txt or /pub/db1019/document/textwp/appenda.wpd [Note: To complete the plutonium database for the years 1975 thru 1981, use RANDAB]. 3. TRACDAB Data The TRACDAB data files are provided only in an ASCII format and can be found in the /pub/db1019/ascii/tracegas subdirectory. B. ASSOCIATED TEXT FILES The /pub/db1019/document subdirectory contains the "textasci" or "textwp" subdirectories which provide the descriptive text for all data files.
