THESE VARIATIONS ARE DERIVED FROM MEAN-MONTHLY OZONE VALUES IN OZONE DATA FOR THE WORLD, PUBLISHED BIMONTHLY BY THE ATMOSPHERIC ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICE IN COOPERATION WITH THE WORLD METEOROLOGICAL ORGANIZATION (WMO), AND WERE ORIGINALLY MEASURED USING GROUND- BASED DOBSON SPECTROPHOTOMETERS OR OZONOMETERS (SOVIET UNION). THE VARIATIONS ARE EXPRESSED TO THE NEAREST TENTH OF A PERCENT AND ARE DEVIATIONS FROM THE 1958-1977 REFERENCE PERIOD MEAN (EXCEPT 1961-1977 IN THE CASE OF THE TROPICS AND 1973-1977 IN THE CASE OF THE SOVIET UNION). MISSING SEASONAL VALUES HAVE BEEN REPLACED BY THE REFERENCE MEAN (I.E., 0.0 PERCENT DEVIATION). LAYER-MEAN OZONE VARIATIONS BASED UPON OZONESONDE AND UMKEHR OBSERVATIONS ARE PRESENTED FOR THE NORTH SND SOUTH TEMPERATE AND POLAR ZONES. THE DATA ARE EXPRESSED AS PERCENT DEVIATIONS TO THE NEAREST TENTH OF A PERCENT FROM THE MEAN BASED UPON DATA AVAILABLE THROUGH 1977. DATA BASED UPON UMKEHR OBSERVATIONS EXTEND BACK TO 1961 WHILE OZONESONDE DATA EXTEND BACK TO 1967.
