Atmospheric carbon dioxide records from sites in the NOAA/CMDL air sampling network

BERMUDA (WEST)

Trends

The sampling site on the western end of the island of Bermuda at Southampton is operated in cooperation with AEROCE and the Bermuda Biological Station. The first NOAA/CMDL flask air samples from Southampton were collected in mid 1989. Since 1990, annual mixing ratios have risen from 355.1 parts per million (ppm) to 356.2 ppm in 1992. This 1992 annual mixing ratio is comparable to other North Atlantic measurements (e.g., 356.5 ppm at Station "M"). The atmospheric CO mixing ratio records from Bermuda show a seasonal pattern: minimum mixing ratios are measured during the late northern summer, and maximum values are observed during the late winter and early spring.
