Atmospheric carbon dioxide records from sites in the NOAA/CMDL air sampling network

SHEMYA ISLAND

Trends

The monitoring site at Shemya Island, Alaska, is operated in cooperation with the U.S. Air Force. Annual atmospheric CO2 mixing ratios at Shemya Island have risen from 349.3 parts per million (ppm) in 1986 to 357.2 ppm in 1992, or 1.32 ppm per year. The record from Shemya Island exhibits a seasonal cycle: the yearly minimum occurs in August; the yearly maximum, between the late winter and spring.
